6-23-09 Tuesday – Departing Seattle June 29, 2009

Posted by captnmike in The Queen Charlottes 2009.

Left our dock about 2pm. Gremlins have shown up earlier in my truck. On the night of the 22nd my solenoid locked up and the starter still kept running with the key turned off. I ran to the boat and got my tool bag out of the boat, ran back to the truck and disconnected the battery. Finally it stopped but it had been several minutes and was pretty hot. A fellow boater in the marina helped me out with trying different things to get the solenoid to break loose. Finally I found a ½” square steel stick about 8” long in my tool bag and with a hammer I banged on the solenoid many times. Finally we hooked up the battery and the starter didn’t keep going around. We then bump started the truck and that got me home to be fixed at a later date. We used the Honda Civic to pack up our remaining goodies filled to the brim so only had to make one trip. We were missing our hose assembly to the Tohatsu 9.8 hp dingy motor and thinking it was in Kirkland stopped by there. No such luck. We then called Dennis and Kathy and stopped for a short visit. Headed to the Tohatsu dealer in Ballard but they were in the process of shutting down the store and going on line so everything was packed up. We went to another store that carries them and got one. Headed to the boat and finally left. We got at far as Mats Mats Bay. 9.1 miles of sailing, 28.1 over all.
