7-23-09 Cresent Inlet Thurs. August 12, 2009

Posted by captnmike in The Queen Charlottes 2009.

We entered Dana Passage, which even at low water had 30 feet and was pretty wide. We went on to Tanu, a Haida village of 25 longhouses. We anchored out quite a ways, then took the dinghy into a clothes line setup for dinghys. About ½ hour earlier was bare gravel so it worked out nicely on our timing to bring the dinghy in. Sean and Aretha are the watchmen. Sean gave us the tour. Four of these are dugout longhouses. The rest were bare flat ground longhouses. Not much for totems as they were taken away to museums etc. Bill Reid a famous carver is buried here with only his Haida name. Several mass graves from the small pox problems. Sprinkles as we came back to our boat with some sun. Deep into Crescent Inlet between points 1 and 2 per Douglas book for anchorage. Light mist now. Two eagles flying around, you can see the nest but no chicks so far. We had dinner
