Sunset over the boat yard

Code Blue Followers, 12-11-13

We came back to the boat in the boatyard Oct 29th and finally we’re getting close to putting s/v Code Blue back in the water.

We just did most of the new bottom painting. It’s been red from the factory since about Aug 2001. Pettit Trinidad has worked great in cold waters of the Pacific North West. Usually painting every five years or so. After reading some articles about Blue Water Marine Paint http://www.bluewatermarinepaint.com I’ve switched to ablative paint by them called Copper Shield SCX 45, Admiral Green #8303. This paint was rated excellent by Practical Sailor and a couple of sailors in the yard here have used it and think it is great for Mexico and hopefully the South Pacific.

We were starting to have growth after about 1 1/2 years with the Pettit Trinidad. Major barnacles in PV area, then in La Paz and north, major soft growth. Here’s some pictures of the boat before and after. We bought 2 gals and 1 quart and that looks just about right. The first coat took 1 gal, 1 qt plus a little of the last gallon. The second coat is mostly done except for stand offs and under the keel blocks. It looks like we have enough and maybe even enough for a third coat along the water line. It was getting scary after the first coat.

A couple of sunset pictures tonight 12-11-13 are included.

We hope to splash on Saturday morning 12-14-13 and head over to Fonatur Marina in Guaymas to do laundry and boat setup stuff for heading south. Our fridge is a keel cooled fridge so on land we’ve had to buy ice every few days since we got back. We’ll be glad to have our fridge/freezer back in operation.

If the weathers good we take off to La Paz soon with some harbor hops along the way, then Mazatlan and further south. It’s supposed to hit 80 F on Sunday here. Lately it’s been 75 F or so in the day and 58 F or so at night.

They are building new bathrooms here and should be ready in a week, too late for us but I would like to take a peek before we leave. The ones we have now are sub standard and below what Marina Seca San Carlos offers, the other working yard in the area.

Thanks for the updates. Really enjoy hearing all that’s happening. Sure looks like you are getting lots of work done…but that’s ‘normal exercise’ for boaters. Greg & Marie
