Code Blue – Folks 3-9-16

We stopped in Invercargill, near the south end of the South Island. There is an E. Hayes hardware store that is massive for what it carries plus it is a museum of sorts for cars and motorcycles.

Several years ago a movie staring Anthony Hopkins came out on the World’s Fastest Indian. About Burt Monro a New Zealander, who traveled to the USA with his motorcycles and set several land speed records with a 1920 Indian Scout Motorcycle. Burt is dead now but his bikes are at a Hardware store in Invercargill on display.

The film opened in December 7, 2005 in New Zealand to positive reviews, and quickly became the highest grossing local film at the New Zealand box-office taking in $7,043,000; and taking in over US$18,297,690 worldwide.

The film was theatrically released on February 3, 2006 in the United States by Magnolia Pictures. The World’s Fastest Indian was released on DVD on December 22, 2006 by Magnolia Home” (Wiki quote).

Burt died on 6th January 1978 – aged 78 – of natural causes. More info at

This website tells a lot more of the modifications he did to the bikes.
If you haven’t seen the movie, rent the DVD. I thought really good. sd
